I grew up in Stillwater, Oklahoma.  I am a graduate of Oklahoma State University with degrees in forestry (B.S.) and entomology (M.S. and Ph.D.). Before retiring in 2013, I worked for 33 years as a research entomologist for the LSU AgCenter.
 
Although my education and career were in the agricultural sciences, I have always had a keen interest in art, architecture and design, and was fortunate enough to be exposed to it from an early age.  Despite my love of art, I never really took the time to create something of my own making.  That changed while attending an art exhibit in 2017.  Viewing the artwork at that exhibit provided the motivation as they say, “to take up the brush and paint.” Being a self-taught painter, I started out doing simple geometric drawings in ink and watercolor.  As I learned more I expanded into oil painting and creating geometric constructions, sculptures and mobiles out of wood and metal.
 
My taste in art is very eclectic, but I have always been drawn toward the more modern and abstract forms of art.  One of the joys of working in these genres, especially for a new artist like myself, is that I have almost limitless opportunities to explore and play with whatever creative thoughts and ideas come to mind.  I can also work with a wide range of artistic mediums from ink and paint, to wood and metal.  For me, art is a never ending process of exploration and learning. Besides, it’s fun!
